5 Ways To Save on Car Insurance
1. Claim all your discounts
You may be able to claim a discount on your insurance for all sorts of things
such as membership of certain organizations (such as the AAA), having a low risk
occupation, or getting combined coverage. Always remember to ask what discounts
are available and how to qualify for them.
2. Increase your deductible
This is the amount of money you have to cover before the insurance company takes
over. The higher you set this figure the more your insurance costs will come
down. In practice this means that you will end up paying for small bumps – but
insurance will cover major problems. If you have a record of few claims this is
an even better idea!
3. Keep your record clean
If you have points on your license then an insurance company will assume that
you are a bad driver – so the more points the higher your insurance costs. But
don’t despair there are often classes available for you to take which will
remove some or possibly all the points on your license – check with your local
department of motor vehicles.
4. Shop around
When it is time to get your insurance quote renewed don’t just go with the quote
offered by your existing company. There are many sites online which will get you
quotes from hundreds of providers. And once you have a better competing quote go
to your original insurer and see if they will better it!
5. Drive a safe car
Safe and boring is the route to cheap car insurance! Insurance companies charge
higher premiums to riskier cars – riskier because there is more chance of the
car being stolen. Or riskier because the type of people who drive that
particular car get into accidents more often.
