7 Tips To Help You Save Money on Food

Food prices are climbing rapidly. The Bureau of Labor Statistics tells us that they rose 4.8% last year, and some foods are rising faster than that. Saving money on food is becoming increasingly important to average households. So here are some tips on how to save money on food.

• Eat at Home
Home prepared food is cheaper, healthier and often more filling than restaurant to take out food.

• Cook from Scratch
There are many kitchen gadgets available to make home cooking easier, such as bread makers and slow cookers. There are many recipes available for quick and easy meals. Another advantage here is that home made food caters to you and your families likes and dislikes and is often healthier then pre-packaged foods.

• Buy in Bulk
You will often find that non-perishable foods can be bought in bulk much cheaper than in small packages. The savings can be particularly pronounced if you shop at a warehouse style shop.

• Buy Off Brand Items
Experiment with off brands you will often find that there is no taste difference. If you also cook from scratch, then by the time you have cooked a whole meal you will never know you haven’t used a brand name ingredient.

• Use Coupons
And watch for coupon promotions – some stores will double the value of your coupons, and some will even triple them.

• Take Advantage of Sale Prices
But don’t go mad – only buy goods on sale if you would normally use them! Sales are also good for stocking up the freezer.

• Make a List
Cutting down on impulse purchases is one of the best way to cut down on grocery bills, and to do that you need to have a list of what you want. Another way to resist impulse purchases is never to shop while you are hungry.
