Save Money on Gas by Driving Smarter
Anywhere you go now a days you will find people complaining about gas
prices. Unfortunately you don't have any control of the prices of
the oil but there are ways you can drive longer on that gallon of gas.
The biggest waste of gas you can do is go from 0 to 60 the fastest you can
go. You should never have to do that, even when you jump on the
highway there is plenty of space to get up to 70 MPH without putting the
petal to the medal. If you are one of those people with a heavy foot
then go ahead and take this advice and try it out for a tank of gas.
Then do the math and see how much you save. I'm betting you will
probably gain roughly 5 miles per gallon more.
Lets go more in depth on that theory of saving 5 miles per gallon.
Lets say you are driving a Chevy Cobalt with a 13 gallon tank which is
lasting you about 340 miles per tank. Getting roughly 26-27 miles
per gallon. When on a Cobalt you should be getting at least 30 miles
per gallon according to Chevy. You gain 5 miles per gallon which
will mean you will gain 65 miles per tank. Which is just about 2 1/2
tanks of gas. Which is a savings of roughly $10 depending on where
you rare located. Just by doing that one little thing in on year you
could be saving around $500. I don't know about you but I can't just
throw away $500 like that.
Another great tip in saving in gas is
coasting. Lets say you see a red light a few hundred feet ahead of
you. Now what would be the put on putting the pedal down to go
faster? You will stop no matter what you do. No only are you
wasting the gas there but you are also putting more wear and tear on your
breaks.
But no matter what you will still have to take the hit at
the pumps but doing simple things like I have listed about can save you
some serious cash in the long run. |
